Additionally, my camper still shows damage from when they moved it - something we were asked by the owners not to discuss with others at the campground.
The south end of the campground is a dump with piles of debris, old shed/shacks, derelict boats, and temporary garages.
I have stayed at Island Campground and Marina several times in both RVs and tents. It has always been a fabulous experience. The owners, Bob and Margi, are incredibly friendly and welcoming. They do their best to ensure everyone has a great time during their stay and are helpful with whatever needs may arise. You can walk to Harbor Bar for some food (get the jerk chicken sandwich!) and drinks (and dancing later at night!). There, you'll likely run into some of the great people who make the campground their second home during the summers - there are many! Although there is a bridge that passes overhead and train tracks nearby, I have never had a hard time sleeping due to traffic sounds (and anyone who is particularly sensitive to noise could certainly simply use ear plugs). Truly no complaints about this wonderful place!
I too have had a similar experience as described by Ryan K concerning the owner Margi. We found her behavior often times arbitrary, capricious, and very rude. An example of this was when one of our guests launched a boat - previously we sought permission and was told there would be a fee which was fine - after the fact she was yelling at us about it not being allowed. Another example was when we inquired about new sites for the following year, she said she could not answer the question because others had not indicated if they were coming back - fair enough - but the owner run was that same day she left a voicemail inquiring about the site we were in at the behest of others when she would not do that for us.
The "review"'posted by Nea Meyers is misleading at best. She is the daughter of the owner and has also worked at the campground.
My family comes here all the time and especially enjoys being so close to Red Wing yet out in the woods and on the water. My family has been camping for years and I have to say this place is definitely worth it. Considering all the amenities they offer I'd say it's well worth what they ask for. The bathrooms are always spotless! Anyway, like I've said before I love this place and will come back again for sure!
Amazing campground right on the river. We have camped here atleast once a year for over 10 years and every year is better then the last. The owners and other campers are always unbelievably friendly and willing to lend a helping hand if anything comes up. Will continue to camp here as long as we are able!
This is a Great campground and marina! Margi runs a campground right!! If she doesn't know you, she will question you. It is hard to run a big campground and marina and they want people to have fun. I don't know what Justin means about messy South end because their campground is very organized and clean. You always have to have a place to store things. Bathrooms are always clean. If the trains bother you, have a couple extra drinks at the Harbor Bar. It is a campground for fun and for people who try to be respectful. Nearly all the people here have been here for many years.
Great local spot for RV camping with a near by jerk shack bar. Campground is friendly and clean. Lots of activity on the weekends. I do understand some of the negative reviews since the campground is across from the train tracks and under a rather busy bridge, but this place rocks! The staff is all super friendly and helpful with any various needs you might have. We've always had smooth check ins and great experiences while staying here.
